The Ohio Academy of History is made up of amateur and professional historians from universities, colleges, high schools, elementary schools, and the general public. It issues awards for outstanding publication, teaching, service, dissertations, and public history. It also monitors and comments on the dissemination of historical knowledge in Ohio’s schools, colleges, and universities. In the fall, members of the Academy gather for a social hour and dinner, followed by a panel presentation or speaker. The Academy holds its annual business meeting during the spring accompanied by scholarly sessions on topics of historical interest.

Incoming faculty who in their first year at an Ohio university or college will have their first year membership fees waived. Please use the paper membership form to send us your information to take advantage of this offer. Forms can be emailed to when taking advantage of this offer.

The Ohio Academy of History’s membership year runs from 1 May to 30 April of the following calendar year, and, as with other professional societies, will not be prorated for the initial year of membership. Memberships purchased between 1 May and 31 December of each year expire on 30 April of the following year. Memberships purchased between 1 January and 30 April 30 of each year expire on 30 April of the following year.

The Ohio Academy of History also offers members the opportunity to purchase a discounted Ohio History Connection membership. This membership is at the Individual level, and can be added to your Ohio Academy of History membership for an additional $35.
